There is a whole new wave of ways that people are using to get fit. the biggest of which is through online coaching and online fitness classes. What makes these so great is the fact that you can do it on your own time and pretty much anywhere you go! For instance, if you’re on a business trip and don’t want to use the gym at your hotel, are too tired to physically go out and FIND a class (or risk getting lost between points A and B) you have the opportunity to stay at the hotel and cue up your phone tablet or laptop and workout whenever you want (2am? No problem!). A lot of online resources offer this, BeachBody, P90X, Gillian Michaels, BurnAlong and the list goes on. However, the sucky thing for INSTRUCTORS is the fact that we have to PAY INTO these online platforms, and let’s be honest, they’re not cheap (BeachBody sign up $39.95, then $15.95 monthly with NO coaching packs, i.e. meal plans, workouts, challenges – that’s right folks we have to pay separate for all of that – $100s of dollars worth of info).
All of this leads me to this post. I am NOT looking to eliminate my in person classes (at all), but to offer more to you as an added bonus so that those of you who want to get more out of your fitness journey can do just that. One misconception that a lot of people have is that the suggested 30 minutes of exercise a day is good enough, or that just any 30 minutes of exercise a day is enough. The answer, in short, is NOPE. Although, yes any exercise is better than no exercise, the idea of doing the same thing every week is not good. For instance, if all you’re doing is coming to Zumba on Tuesday and Saturday and taking a 30 minute walk Wednesday nights, you’re not doing much in the weight loss department. Granted, you may see SOME results (again, because some activity is better than none), but in order to really SEE results and keep them is to incorporate different types of exercise into your regime.
As many of you know (or may not), Zumba is actually a cardio exercise – we work your heart rate the whole class. However, we’re also giving you some fitness VARIATION within the routines to help incorporate the exercise element – so things like squats, lunges, knee ups, waving arms, chest pumps and the like are your fitness VARIATIONS. Outside of that, there is NO strength training in Zumba – we are NOT doing pushups or lifting heavy weights in class. In Zumba Toning, again this is mostly cardio with added weight which means we’re working you a little harder than a typical Zumba class and are focused more on the toning and HOW your using your body by focusing on form and specific muscle groups at one time. Although we’re incorporating a few circuit songs into the playlist, we’re again NOT lifting heavy weights or straining ourselves build muscle.
Outside of Zumba and Zumba Toning, I offer AMPD Resistance. THIS is a strength training class, which means we are focused 100% on muscle strength and conditioning. Combining strength and cardio exercise not only aids in your fitness journey and reaching attainable goals, but is also heart and muscle healthy – creating an overall total body workout. My point? Don’t doubt yourself in your capabilities and what you can achieve – whether you think you can or you can’t, try it and surprise yourself with what you CAN. So whether you’re taking one of my online classes, or coming in person – let’s work together to get you to where you want to be!
