Dance and fitness were never synonymous to me until 2011 when I was introduced to Zumba Fitness.
I’ve always been a very active person, even as a child. My love of dance probably started as a toddler, where my mom insists I’d stand in the living room in nothing but my baggy diaper and bounce while watching my favorite movie “Wee Sing” on VHS. At the early age of five, I was signed up for ballet and thence dressed up for our annual recital as Ariel from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” I realized then, however, that stages are scary and lights are bright and never even took the steps up that night.
Fast forward to my middle school days and when I thought I was a jock. For 2 years I played on my town’s recreational girls travel basketball team. I was OK, but not at all competitive enough to feel comfortable to play the school team come the new school year. With some coaxing from my mom and my younger sister, I opted to try taking dance again. What harm would it do? My sister was enrolled in Jazz and I opted my hand at Hip-Hop. Needless to say, something clicked.
That was nearly 20 years ago now. Rewind from now to 2011 again… the point in time when I was on the phone with my sister, who insisted that I try this new “fitness program called Zumba.” Well, 6 months and three instructors later and I, like many of you are now, was a self-proclaimed Zumba addict. I went from taking one class a week to nearly 5 to finally getting my own license in 2014.
Since finding my true love, my hobby, and my passion in fitness, I’ve never been happier about going to work and seeing my co-workers in all my years of working!
